and if I hear the phrase "I just wanted to touch base with you" one more time I'm gonna kill somebody.
This has been a rough week. I had to give a fifteen-minute speech on careers in publishing to my tech writing class on Wednesday, which I mostly knocked out of the park, despite the fact that last-minute jitters made me remove an opening quote from H.L. Mencken that I wanted to use ("I see you want to be an editor. Do me a favor and take a revolver and fire all six bullets into your head"). I thought it was just too much of a downer.
I hope Laura is alright and her surgery went okay. I still care about her a lot. Just a week and a half ago we were walking downtown and eating ice cream and now she's immobile in a hospital bed. I can't stand seeing people I care about in pain and not being able to help in any way. It's frightening. But I guess I went and saw her and that's all I can do in the end.
