Some guy was reading a portfolio. In the bathroom. While pissing. In the urinal. He was standing in the urinal, doing a no-handed piss, holding a portfolio with one hand, flipping through it and taking notes with a pencil in the other.

While pissing.

These people are insane.

If it takes that much dedication to your job to last here, to not even be able to stop working while you're peeing, I don't think I'm gonna survive in this business....

Thankfully here we have the little walls between the urinals. But even so, men's bathrooms are horrifying places. I read a novel called Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (great book) in which the main character, who had grown up as a girl for the first nineteen years of her life, finds out she's really a hermaphrodite and so decides to live as a boy, finds the hardest thing to get used to as living as a man is how disgusting men's rooms are as compared to women's.

hahaha i can believe it. HOWEVER... women's bathrooms can be sooo freakin' grody too. according to the managers where i work the ladies' room is grosser than the men's... but to spare you i won't go into the details. ew.

Yup. When I worked at Math Reviews, one editor routinely took a big stack of galleys into the stall with him, marked 'em up, and then handed them back to us copy editors for corrections. Though I loved my job, I went through a lot of Purell when I was working there. Seriously, it's nice to be passionate about your work and all, but you can't just... take some time for introspection while your excretory system does its thing?
